Student Representatives

Every year students volunteer to become your Student Representatives. They carry out their roles alongside their studies and their responsibilities include representing different groups of Hope students as well as to champion their interests. Here are the electees for this year with their manifestos.

Student Representatives 2024 / 2025

Women's Student Representative

Madison Campbell

I've ran for Women’s Representative because I genuinely care about making a difference for the women at our university. Over the past few years, I’ve realised how important it is to have someone who’s willing to be our voice, and I want to be that. I ran for this role because I know what it’s like to feel unheard or that the issues we face aren’t taken seriously.

Back in secondary school, I worked hard to get the Red Box Project going, which provides free period products, and seeing it make a real impact motivated me to keep fighting for change. I’m proud that our university offers free period products, but I believe we can do more to tackle period poverty—both on campus and nationwide. I also want to make sure other essential items, like pregnancy tests, are easily accessible on campus, so no one struggles to get resources they need.

Another issue that deeply concerns me is sexual assault, as it affects so many people in universities. It’s horrifying to think about how many are affected by this. I want to push for more workshops, awareness campaigns, and practical solutions for example, anti-spiking kits, so we can feel safer and more protected.

I’m running for this role because I really believe I can help make life better for women at our university. Whether it’s fighting for equality, organising events, or simply listening to what matters to you, I’m ready to be a strong voice for all.

Sustainability Student Representative

 Ellie Baldwin

In this role, I aim to create positive sustainability initiatives to serve both our university community and wider society.

During my time as Sustainability Rep 23/24, I successfully advocated for divestment from the Fossil Fuels industry within the university as part of the People & Planet Fossil Free Campaigns.

I am eager to continue this work through the Fossil Free Careers Campaign. Additionally, I plan to collaborate with the Environmental Society on community volunteering projects, raise awareness about environmental issues, and develop our own campus garden.

Thank you,

Ellie :))

BGM ( Black Global Majority) Representative

Kyrah McIntosh

As someone who has experienced the power of community support and transformative opportunity firsthand, I understand the impact of meaningful connections that go beyond basic support, and I am deeply committed to creating spaces where every student feels valued and empowered. There are numerous programmes and campaigns focused on supporting diversity and increasing social mobility in the academic and professional environment. The problem in our society is not actually a lack of support but rather a lack of connection, and I think it’s time we do something about it. If I was nominated as your BGM rep my main goals would be to:

  • Establish connections with global companies to support the promotion of BGM students and increase their social mobility.
  • Raise awareness within the BGM community of the various forms of financial aid available to them.
  • Be a point of reference for BGM students, to receive support and guidance in all aspects of university life.
  • Find ways to attract BGM talent to be a part of our Liverpool Hope community.

There are various organisations, seeking to level the playing field and support the upcoming BGM students to break the glass ceiling. Through brining in guest speakers, organising BGM focused activities and working with external organisations, I hope to improve the university experience of BGM students at Hope. It’s true that we may be a minority, but as my Jamaican family would say, “We likkle but we Tallawah”, and together we can truly make a change within our Hope community.

Disabled Students Representative

Taylor Woodward

My name is Taylor and I am running to become your new Disabled Students Representative. I am deeply committed to advocating for the rights and needs of disabled students within Liverpool Hope

University. My motivation stems from a personal understanding of the challenges we face. Having AuDHD, I believe that every student deserves a voice that truly represents their experiences.

Firstly, I will prioritise accessibility across campus. This includes advocating for improved access to buildings, accessible learning materials, and the implementation of technology that

supports diverse learning needs. I will work closely and critically with the university to ensure that our campus environment is inclusive for everyone.

Secondly, mental health support is crucial for disabled students. I aim to enhance resources, ensuring that they are readily available and tailored to your specific needs. By working with the likes of the Disabled Students

Society, I will create even more safe spaces for you.

Moreover, I plan to foster a strong sense of community amongst disabled students. I will initiate events that promote connection, collaboration, and empowerment, allowing us to

build a supportive network. Together, we can share our stories and advocate for change, breaking down barriers and combating stigma.

I believe that my passion, understanding, and dedication make me the ideal candidate for Disabled Students Representative. I ask for your support to help me create a more inclusive and

supportive environment for all disabled students at Hope. This is your education, your studies. Own it!

Thank you

LGBTQ+ Student Representative

Laura McAleese

As a fellow member of the community I feel that everyone should feel included and welcomed. Before I have moved to Liverpool for my studies I lived in a small village in Ireland, therefore I found it hard to make many friends. I can help use this role to help educate others, promote understanding, and foster a sense of belonging for all students. Ultimately, it’s about making a positive impact and ensuring that everyone feels seen and valued. By fostering a sense of belonging, you help build a supportive community that values diversity and encourages open dialogue.

Natasha Maria Gonsalves

"Hey, I’m Natasha Gonsalves, an international credit transfer student excited to complete my third year here. Having experienced the challenges and excitement of studying abroad, I am deeply passionate about supporting fellow international students in navigating this startling journey ahead.

As your International Student Representative, I will work towards ensuring that international students' challenges, diverse experiences, and aspirations are recognized and addressed. From culture shock to academic adjustment, I understand the hurdles we face and will work relentlessly to create a more inclusive and supportive environment.

I am committed to advocating for better integration programs, organizing cultural exchange events, and ensuring the needs of international students have been fulfilled. Whether it’s academic support, counselling, or career guidance. Mature & Part Time Student Representative

Andrea Lowe

"I am thrilled to be a candidate for the role of Mature Student Representative. As a mature student and single parent, I understand the unique challenges we face, such as balancing family and work commitments while returning to educatuon. My goal is to advocate for our specific needs and foster a more inclusive environment.

I will collaborate with the university to ensure mature students have access to tailored resources, flexible learning options, and effective support systems. Strengthening communication between mature students and administration is a priority, particularly regarding timetabling flexibility, part-time study options, and access to childcare and financial aid.

Additionally, I plan to create a sense of community by organizing social events, workshops, and networking opportunities designed for mature students. I will also ensure that some events are child-friendly, allowing parents to participate without the added stress of childcare.

By creating these supportive spaces, I hope to encourage peer connections and shared experiences that help us navigate university life together. If elected, I promise to be approachable, listen to your concerns, and advocate tirelessly for mature students’ interests in all decisions that affect our experience. Together, we can drive positive change that benefits both current and future mature students.

Sincerely,

Andréa Lowe"

NI / ROI Student Representative

Cate Devlin

believe I would make an excellent Ni/ROI rep ,as being born in the North of Ireland or Nothern Ireland depending on your persuasion I know what it's like moving to another country and missing that sense of community .No one can really encapsulates what it means to be Irish it's the food ,language ,community ,culture and history that shapes us .Adjusting can be hard and I remember feeling really home sick and being excited when I heard someone with the same accent as me or someone from the free state .

If I were to be the rep I would make it a inclusive safe space for fellow Irish people to be themselves without having to re word the way the day things or slow down when talking and I can empathise with the loss of feeling at home .I would propose bringing in Irish classes I myself had spoke it up to a really high level and have lost it and with it a piece of my identify as I know people struggle with an identity crisis back home .

I would bring in Ulster language classes ,ceilis, Gaelige an lae ,a mini Gaeltacht day or even Irish dancing classes and some food work shops were people can make some soda bread or potato bread .Food that reminds them from home and will comfort them along with having a safe and welcoming space.
